Manchester United will turn their attentions to signing Ajax midfielder Donny van de Beek if they are priced out of a deal for Jack Grealish.
The Red Devils have long since been linked with a move for the Villa captain. Although, he is thought to be an alternative to Jadon Sancho if a deal can’t be done for the Borussia Dortmund star.
The 24-year-old wouldn’t come cheap though, particularly after Villa avoided relegation from the Premier League.
Some reports claim that the Midlands club will ask for up to £80million for their key man. That figure could prove to be too much for United though, who are hoping to negotiate a much lower price.
Should they not be able to achieve that, a report on the Evening Standard, cited on Sports Mole, claims Van de Beek will be their next option.
The Dutchman enjoyed another strong year for Ajax, scoring ten goals and providing 11 assists. And he could be set to move on this summer, as previously confirmed by Edwin van der Saar.
In fact, the 23-year-old has an agreement in place with Ajax that will allow him to leave this year. That is despite having two years left to run on his contract.
Van de Beek would provide competition to in-form Bruno Fernandes should he join. With Jesse Lingard expected to leave, he would also provide United with another option in the ‘number 10’ role.
He has been linked with Real Madrid, although they aren’t thought to be in the market for any major signings.
That leaves Ole Gunnar Solskjaer with a free run at the Dutch international if he fails to land his other targets.
Ferdinand tells Man Utd to keep up Sancho chase
In other news, Rio Ferdinand has told his former side to continue trying to sign Jadon Sancho. The Englishman is believed to be United’s number one target, but a deal looks unlikely as things stand.
Borussia Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc has stated that the 20-year-old would remain with the German outfit next term.
But Ferdinand has encouraged the Red Devils to continue trying to sign him despite the setback.
