Man Utd make checks on €40m alternative to Sancho, Dembele

Manchester United have identified Lucas Ocampos as another alternative in their hunt for a new winger, according to a report.

Jadon Sancho has been United’s top target throughout the transfer window. However, they have been unwilling to meet Borussia Dortmund’s asking price.

While they have not abandoned hope of luring the England winger to Old Trafford, they have had to switch their attention to potential alternatives.

One of the leading names to emerge recently was Ousmane Dembele, who has fallen out of favour at Barcelona. There has been speculation that he could move to Man Utd so that his current club can make room for other targets.

Indeed, ESPN report that Dembele is United’s “plan B”, and talks are “going well” with Barcelona.

The report claims that Paul Pogba has played a part in convincing his compatriot that a move to Manchester would be beneficial. With the player having warmed to the idea, United must now agree a formula with Barca – who would rather sell him than loan him out.

While United would prefer a loan, they could be willing to pay up to €50m for Dembele. However, if not, they will shift their attention towards another La Liga winger.

Lucas Ocampos becomes a target

According to ESPN, Sevilla star Lucas Ocampos is now a potential option for United.

The Red Devils are well aware of Ocampos’ talents after he played against them in the Europa League semi-final. His Sevilla side eventually went on to win the competition after knocking out United.

In total, Ocampos scored 17 goals from 44 appearances in all competitions last season. But despite benefiting from his highest scoring season to date, Sevilla could cash in on him before the transfer window closes.

The report claims that Sevilla will listen to offers of around €40m for the Argentina international – and United have made checks about his situation.

The Red Devils admire Ocampos for his versatility, as he can play across numerous attacking positions. Therefore, they are keeping him in mind as the transfer deadline approaches.
