Man Utd to make final bid for Spurs star as Juve close on Matic

Rob McCarthy
Eric Dier: Disappointed with Liverpool loss

Manchester United are reportedly considering a huge final take it or leave it £60million offer for Eric Dier.

Tottenham have so far held firm in the face of mounting pressure to sell the versatile England midfielder.

United see Dier as the ideal long-term replacement for new captain Michael Carrick, having seemingly missed out on Chelsea’s Nemanja Matic.

The Serbian had looked odds on to make a move to Old Trafford but that was before United swooped to land Romelu Lukaku from under the noses of Chelsea, and that has created some tension between the two clubs.

And with Antonio Conte bringing in Monaco’s Tiemoue Bakayoko, Matic now looks bound for Juventus, according to reports in Italy.

As for Dier, he is said to be keen on a move to Manchester despite signing a new five-year deal at Spurs worth around £70,000-a-week last September.

United are ready to double the 23-year-old’s salary but Mauricio Pochettino wants him to stay as he sees Dier as a valuable asset, given his ability to play in the holding midfield role or as a central defender.

More importantly, Spurs chief Daniel Levy is unwilling to let any more of his big-name players leave after sanctioning Kyle Walker’s £50m switch to Manchester City.
