Manchester United are understood to be confident of signing two players this month as they reportedly close in on Bruno Fernandes.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is looking to add a creative midfielder to his side and with James Maddison believed to be out of reach, the club have once again been heavily linked with attacking midfielder Fernandes.
And the talk has escalated dramatically in the last 24 hours with Portuguese paper O Jogo running the story that Fernandes, 25, is heading for Old Trafford.
The paper’s editor-in-chief Filipe Dias told Sky Sports’ Transfer Talk podcast: “The story so far is that United this time are really closing in on Bruno Fernandes.
“My newspaper, we ran a story earlier this morning that there are talks between the two clubs and we figure that a deal might be close in the next few days, few hours even, because Sporting need the money badly.”
The Athletic report that United officials think they can secure two new arrivals this month and one of those may well be Fernandes.
Fernandes’ agent Rui Guimaraes of the Positionumber group deleted his account after speculation claimed Sporting Lisbon officials had travelled to England to meet United representatives.

Rio Ferdinand, who later admitted to having no inside information, fanned the flames by tweeting ‘Brunoooooooooooo’ on Friday night and that was apparently liked by Guimaraes before he pulled his account.
Fernandes was a name that was thrown at Solskjaer at his Friday press conference, but the Norwegian gave little away after a report claimed he had flown to Portugal last week to watch Fernandes start in Sporting Lisbon’s 2-1 defeat to Porto.
“We go back to speculations and we do go and watch games all the time,” Solskjaer said. “When I’ve been and where I’ve been is irrelevant. (Fernandes) is another player in a different club I can’t speak about.”
As well as a midfielder, United are also believe to be chasing a striker and they appear to have entered the race for Moussa Dembele, according to Sky Sports.
“They (United) are looking to sign another forward,” Sky Sports reporter Kaveh Solhekol said. “You could argue that they haven’t really replaced Romelu Lukaku, with all the goals that he scored.
“There’s a couple of players they are looking at: one is Moussa Dembele at Lyon.”
