Man Utd, Spurs mentioned as striker skips medical before planned transfer

The chances of Alexander Sorloth making a Premier League switch may not be over after he failed to turn up for a medical at RB Leipzig.

Sorloth has become one of the highest scoring strikers in Europe since leaving Crystal Palace on loan for Trabzonspor last summer.

The Norwegian failed to score a Premier League goal during his time at Palace, but netted 33 times in 49 games in Turkey last season.

That led to speculation that his two-year loan could be interrupted at the half-way stage. And some clubs were willing to give him a second chance in England.

Tottenham had been linked with the player, as Jose Mourinho searches for a backup for Harry Kane.

Gareth Bale has returned on loan from Real Madrid, but Tottenham also want a player who is more of a natural centre-forward.

Sorloth had emerged as an option, but RB Leipzig eventually pulled ahead of Spurs in the race for him.

However, there has been a twist in the tale. Sorloth should have undergone his medical with Leipzig on Monday, but was not present. It’s the third time he has missed a medical there.

MAN UTD, SPURS WAITING FOR SORLOTH?

According to Turkish outlet Asist Analiz (via Sport Witness), the reason is because he “was told to wait” due to “an offer from a very big English club”.

They add that they expect Sorloth to move to Tottenham or Manchester United instead.

United have not been heavily linked with the player before, but a move to Old Trafford would give Sorloth the chance to work under compatriot Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

However, Jan Aage Fjortoft clarifies that Leipzig remain the favourites for his signature, despite some “practical hurdles” currently standing in their way.

With Palace and Trabzonspor both having a say over his future, three-way negotiations with Leipzig are far from straight-forward.

Disagreements over the transfer fee and potential bonuses are holding up the deal, according to RBLive. Sorloth could eventually cost €20 plus €4m in bonuses.

Meanwhile, Football London deny that Spurs will bid for Sorloth before the transfer deadline.
