Man Utd given official go ahead, as they finally have top target in their sights

Manchester United have been given public notice that Raphael Varane is available for transfer this summer.
Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has said he is open to offers for the France centre-back with United and Chelsea eyeing bids for the defender.
The Daily Express suggest Varane is ready for a new challenge after 10 years at the Bernabeu. And Florentino Perez, who was heading up the doomed European Super League, told EL Larguero: “I’m happy of our team. We have a great defence, a great midfield, but yes we have to do something in the attack.
“[Varane?] If players don’t want to stay at Madrid they can leave.”
Varane, who turns 28 on Sunday, is out of contract in 2022 and has yet to put pen to paper on an extension to remain with the LaLiga giants.
It was also revealed on Wednesday that veteran Bayern Munich star David Alaba had agreed a five-year contract to move to the Bernabeu this summer. The formal signing is expected to take place at some point over the next few weeks.
It looks as though Alaba could be the replacement for Varane.
United are understood to be on the lookout for a long-term partner for Harry Maguire.
Victor Lindelof has been inconsistent throughout his time at the club, while Eric Bailly looks increasingly likely to leave. Therefore, the club want to sign another option they can rely on.
United have cast their net wide in the hope of finding a new centre-back.
Sevilla’s Jules Kounde, Pau Torres of Villarreal and Ibrahima Konate have all been linked with United.
The France World Cup winner almost joined United from Lens back in 2011, but Zinedine Zidane intervened on Real’s behalf to convince the defender to head to the Bernabeu instead. The rest has been history, with Varane winning the Champions League four times in 10 years in Spain.

Varane is Neville’s pick
Zidane’s men were hoping to pocket around £60m from a sale this summer.
However, the Daily Mail recently suggested a fee more in the region of £45m could do the trick for a player who has yet to reach his prime.
United have rival interest though with Chelsea also looking to strengthen their back line this summer.
Gary Neville has named Varane as the main player Manchester United should target in the summer transfer window.
Answering a question in a Twitter Q&A recently about which player he would bring to United from a rival, his one-word response was simply Varane’s surname.
