Manchester United are mulling over whether to allow Brandon Williams to leave on loan to Southampton, claims a report.

The Manchester Evening News claims Saints are “among the clubs to have enquired” about the taking the left-back on loan.

Williams made his United debut in September last year and started 25 times in his breakthrough campaign. However, he has failed to make any of the three Premier League squads this season and United may opt to loan him out.

The 20-year-old has fallen down the pecking order at left-back and with the experienced Alex Telles likely to arrive on Monday Williams’s first-team chances look remote.

Luke Shaw has started all three of United’s Premier League games to date, but he too could be vulnerable after a shocking performance against Spurs.

It could mean Telles coming straight into the XI if deemed fit enough. Right-footed Williams can cover at right-back for Aaron Wan-Bissaka, but Timothy Fosu-Mensah got the nod in the defeat to Crystal Palace.

Williams signed a new contract until 2024 in August and said he wanted to “repay the trust” shown in him by manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Academy graduate Williams has made 33 first-team appearances since making his debut off the bench in September’s Carabao Cup clash against Rochdale.

Williams to repay faith

The left-back signed a deal until at least 2022 in October, but his continued progress has seen him rewarded with a deal until 2024 with the option of a further year.

Speaking to United’s official website, Englishman Williams expressed his delight at agreeing the new terms.

“Signing this contract is another really proud moment for myself and my family,” he said. “Having been at Manchester United since I was seven years old, it’s genuinely a dream come true to be playing in the first team

“It has taken a huge amount of hard work to reach this point and it has been really special for me to break through into the squad.

“I’ve learned a lot throughout the season from the manager, his coaching staff and my team-mates and I want to repay the trust that they have all shown in me.”
