Man Utd have been tipped to beat bitter rivals Liverpool to the signature of a 20-year-old rising German superstar after a report from the German media claimed the Red Devils were ‘very interested’.

Havertz has become one of the hottest properties on the European transfer market with his 20-goal 2018-19 campaign cementing his place in Germany’s national starting eleven.

The attacking midfielder previously went on record as saying he would be “excited by the prospect” of playing for Manchester United after it was claimed the playmaker had decided he wants to leave Bayer Leverkusen next summer.

Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool had also been linked with the superstar, but now a report from German publication SportBild (via SportWitness) reveals that Man Utd have emerged as the likeliest of suitors.

The article reveals: ‘Barcelona, Real Madrid, Liverpool and ‘the two Manchester clubs’ could move for Havertz,’ but the German outlet are sure to state: ‘Especially Manchester United are very interested’

The age of Havertz would fit the recent shift in transfer policy at Old Trafford to a tee, with his already formidable talents capable of developing further as he matures.

One potential sticking point could come in the predictable form of Bayern Munich.

The Bavarian giants have a habit of snapping up the brightest talent around them in the Bundesliga, simultaneously strengthening their position while weakening their opponents’.

Meanwhile, ex-United legend Rio Ferdinand has revealed the one key area he believes Chelsea’s Tammy Abraham outshines Marcus Rashford.

Despite both strikers getting off to a flying start this season, the ex-centre-half was able to pinpoint a difference in mentality that separates the two English hitmen.

“He’s [Abraham] going to score a tremendous amount of goals because what he does is he wants to be in between the sticks, he wants to be in the centre of the goals to score goals,” Ferdinand told BT Sport.

“He’s somebody who’s hungry and got a desire to score. It’s a very good finish, it’s clean and clinical. He makes it look easy, it’s not an easy finish.

“What I love about Tammy is his first instinct, his first thought is ‘get me in there, get me in there to hurt the opposition, get me in there to score goals’.  It’s the positioning, some people will tell [Marcus] Rashford to get in that position and he’ll score five, six, seven, eight goals a season more.
