Man Utd youngster signs first pro contract at Old Trafford

Highly-rated Manchester United youngster Angel Gomes has signed his first professional contract, the club have announced.

The 17-year-old forward became United’s youngest debutant since Duncan Edwards in 1953 and the first player born since 2000 to play in the Premier League when he featured against Crystal Palace last May.

Gomes was also a member of the World Cup-winning England Under-17 squad this autumn.

United have not revealed the length of his deal but the news will end recent speculation linking him with other clubs, including Barcelona.

London-born Gomes, who joined United at the age of six, told www.manutd.com: “This club is renowned for giving homegrown players opportunities to progress into the first team and that was a major factor in me signing my first professional contract at this great club.

“I am still young but am looking forward to continuing my development with the help of the coaching staff and I will take every opportunity that comes my way.”
