Manchester City secure full-back deal with announcement imminent

Manchester City’s deal to activate the buy-back clause of PSV’s Angelino is done and it will be announced shortly, according to reports in Holland.

In Friday’s edition of De Telegraaf, it was reported that the deal for Angelino to return to Manchester City was done and he is not expected to report for training at the Dutch Eredivisie club.

Eindhoven Dagblad confirmed this, reporting the player ‘has left’ for Pep Guardiola’s side.

Angelino spent four years at the Premier League champions but failed to make a single first team appearance in the league, spending time on loan at New York City FC, Girona, Mallorca and NAC Breda.

The 22-year-old joined PSV on a five year contract last June, making 43 appearances since, but it would now appear that City have activated his €12m buy-back clause and he will return to the Etihad Stadium.

City currently have the most expensive left back in history in Benjamin Mendy but he has struggled with injuries in his two years at the club. Midfielders Fabian Delph and Oleksandr Zinchenko, centre back Aymeric Laporte, right back Danilo and even winger Leroy Sane have all had to fill in during Mendy’s absence.

The signing of Angelino would be deemed a clever one by City, getting a player who already knows the club, for a good price. It is likely that the left back will be happy to play a back up role to Mendy.

Nothing has been confirmed by City, PSV or the player yet, but it would seem that the deal is imminent and an announcement will follow shortly.
