Man Utd source says Woodward wants two deals done by July

Ed Woodward TEAMtalk

Manchester United chief Ed Woodward reportedly wants two new signings in at Old Trafford before the start of pre-season training in July.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s pre-season will begin on July 1 at the Aon Training Complex and The Sun claims Woodward and United want two new players in the door, “with a defender high on the priority list”.

Solskjaer will have two weeks to work with his squad before United play five games in Australia, China, Singapore and Wales between July 13 and August 3 – with Woodward confident two new signings will be on board.

Woodward is apparently keen for the club to go about their business before pre-season in order to be in the best shape possible ahead of the new campaign.

The report goes on to state that Ajax’s Matthijs De Ligt, Tottenham’s Toby Alderweireld, Napoli centre-back Kalidou Koulibaly along with PSG full-back Thomas Meunier are all on United’s list of targets

While a trio of midfielders – Joao Felix, Bruno Fernandes and Adrien Rabiot – are also mentioned as potential signings for Solskjaer.

An Old Trafford ‘source’ says: “Some of the staff at Carrington have been told to expect at least two new faces visiting before training on July 1.

“The red carpet is being rolled out to prospective signings and their agents, showing them all we have to offer.

“We are pretty confident a couple are close to getting over the line. Talks are going well and have been before the end of last season.”
