Ashley Fletcher: Striker impressed on loan at Barnsley

West Ham have confirmed the signing of England Under-20 international Ashley Fletcher from Premier League rivals Manchester United.

The 20-year-old, who has signed a four-year contract with the Hammers, spent the second half of last season on loan at Barnsley, helping the Tykes win the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy and promotion from Sky Bet League One via the play-offs.

The striker was out of contract at Old Trafford and, according to West Ham, the terms of the transfer will now be finalised.

Fletcher told West Ham’s website: “I am very excited to be here. West Ham are a massive club and I am just happy that I can come and further my development here.

“I think it is a club with a lot of ambition. They have a lot of good players and it was a special final season (at Upton Park). They managed to finish the campaign very well.

“West Ham are a club built on traditions of giving youngsters a run and hopefully I can get my chance as well.”
