Manchester United will sign £40m Matic in ‘coming days’

Jose Mourinho will pay £40million for unwanted Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic this week, according to The Guardian.

Manchester United have been linked with 28-year-old Matic and Roma enforcer Radja Naingollan, but it appears the Belgium international has turned down an offer from Mourinho and now the United boss will push ahead and be re-united with Matic again by the end of the week.

The report claims Matic will take a medical in the “coming days” after agreeing personal terms  on a deal which will earn him around £155,000 a week – a significant rise on the £90,000 a week he earns at Stamford Bridge

The two clubs are believed to gave agreed a fee of around £40million – thus almost doubling the £21million that Chelsea paid Benfica for the holding midfielder in January 2014.

The article claims Matic will be signed as a replacement for Michael Carrick, 35, who has just penned a 12-month contract at Old Trafford.

Mourinho wants the deal wrapped up before the club’s pre-season tour of USA, which will get underway on 9 July.

Matic’s exit in the capital should see Antonio Conte push ahead and land Monaco midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko to his midfield. The 22-year-old has held talks with the champions and could complete his move to the Premier League this week, according to reports.
