Manchester United’s next three contract priorities come to light

Mason Greenwood and Jesse Lingard are the latest Manchester United stars in line for lucrative new deals at Old Trafford, claims a report.

The Evening Standard claim that United have a trio of priorities and extending the contracts of youngster Greenwood and Lingard are two of those priorities, with the future of Paul Pogba their third concern.

Greenwood, who will start against Astana in the Europa League on Thursday night, only penned a professional contract in October 2018. However, the 17-year-old forward’s progress has been impressive and he is so highly-regarded by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer that United want his future securing.

The United boss confirmed a starting berth for the Bradford-born striker at Wednesday’s press conference and then reiterated his belief that the teenager is the best finisher at the club.

“He’s still very young, Mason,” Solskjaer said. “But he’s maturing, he’s developed so much in the last six months since I came in.

“He’s one of the best finishers I’ve seen, it’s just that enjoyment, express yourself at Old Trafford.”

David De Gea and Victor Lindelof has signed new deals this week, on the back of recent deals for Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Scott McTominay and Lingard will be offered new terms imminently.

England midfielder Lingard, 26, is halfway through the four-year deal he signed in 2017, but Solskjaer wants his future ironing out too.

While the club are also trying to convince Pogba to commit his future to Old Trafford after an uncertain summer which was sparked by his comments in Tokoyo where he admitted he was looking for another challenge.

Pogba will enter the final year of his contract at the end of the season, but United have an option of a further 12 months on the deal after the midfielder’s switch from Juventus in 2016.
