Marca take a swipe at Valencia ‘coach’ Neville

Spanish daily Marca has taken a swipe at under-fire Valencia coach Gary Neville in their daily blog.

The online journal put brackets around the Spanish word for coach in an entry referring to the former Sky Sports pundit’s press conference on Tuesday morning.

Marca claimed: “Gary Neville has already spoken in press conference before the match tomorrow in Mestalla. The English ‘coach ‘ said, among other things, he wants to “give the fans what they deserve”.

Neville is feeling the heat after failing to win a game in La Liga since his appointment in early December, his first club coaching role, and many of the club’s fans have voiced their displeasure at Neville’s efforts so far.

Neville’s men face Barcelona on Wednesday in the Copa del Rey second leg, but with Barca leading 7-0 from the first leg at the Nou Camp, the 40-year-old will rest players ahead of Saturday’s must-win clash with Espanyol.

Speaking in a press conference, shown on Valencia’s official website, Neville said: “I know when we play games like that it can turn around very quick.

“It has to turn around on Saturday. We have to win this match on Saturday, that’s the pressure I’m putting on myself and the expectation of everybody – we have to win on Saturday.”

Neville was scheduled to join up with England at Thursday’s St George’s Park get-together but he has had special dispensation from Roy Hodgson to miss the meet-up and instead focus on his Los Che plans for the weekend.

Neville has overseen 16 games at the helm and despite collecting four wins, none of those have come in La Liga leaving Los Che just four points above the relegation zone.
