Mata discusses Lukaku’s imminent move from Everton to United

Juan Mata is delighted that Manchester United look to have sealed the signing of Romelu Lukaku from Everton.

The Red Devils agreed a fee reportedly in the region of £75million plus add-ons for the Belgium international with Lukaku completing a medical in Los Angeles ahead of the imminent transfer.

He is expected to join up with the rest of the United squad this week with Mourinho’s men flying out to the USA on Sunday for the start of their pre-season tour.

“We played together for Chelsea and he [Lukaku] has had a lot of good seasons at Everton,” Mata told Marca.

“He knows the coach well, and scores a lot of goals which we hope he will carry on so we can try to win the league.”

United take part in the Super Cup final against Real Madrid on August 8 ahead of the new Premier League season and Mata believes will already have one eye on that game.

“I think Jose is already thinking about the final, and has been since Real won the Champions League,” Mata added.

“The coach wants to win the trophy whilst in charge at United and although Zinedine Zidane had an incredible year in charge, we will try to create problems for them.”
