Wolves star set for Tottenham medical after £15m fee agreed

Wolves have accepted a bid of around £15m from Tottenham for full-back Matt Doherty, according to reports.

Doherty has been a standout player for Wolves since their promotion to the Premier League two years ago. He made 50 appearances for them in all competitions last season.

His position, right-back, has been a problem area for Tottenham in recent years. They sold Kieran Trippier last summer, and Serge Aurier failed to live up to expectations in his place.

Spurs have also recently parted ways with Kyle Walker-Peters, who joined Southampton as a makeweight for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

Tottenham could finally solve their issues at right-back by bringing in Doherty. According to various sources, including the Telegraph, Spurs have had a bid for the Irishman accepted by Wolves.

The fee for Doherty – who has played for Wolves in League One, the Championship and the Premier League – is £15m.

Doherty will undergo a medical at Tottenham over the weekend, after Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo decided to sanction his move.

The update follows news from Thursday that talks had taken place and that a formal offer was close. The move will bring an end to Doherty’s 10-year association with Wolves.

Doherty’s arrival could trigger a departure for Aurier, who is a target for AC Milan. However, the Italians have not yet made an official bid for the Ivorian.

Wolves are in the market for Arsenal full-back Ainsley Maitland-Niles, who could be the replacement for Doherty. The Gunners rejected their first offer for the versatile Englishman, though.
