Former Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino remains a firm target on Manchester United’s radar ahead of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s potential sacking this summer, according to reports.

Pochettino has been out of work since he lost his job at Spurs in November and his next move has been the subject of intense speculation.

The Argentine was reluctant to give much away when asked about his future in January but several reports have suggested that United are keen admirers.

Indeed, talks between Pochettino and United are said to have already begun, with the 47-year-old demanding that he has a definitive say on transfers in and out of Old Trafford.

According to the Sunday Mirror, Pochettino continues to lurk on United’s radar, with the Red Devils setting out a clear plan for Solskjaer’s future.

The newspaper says that Solskjaer will only be sacked if he fails to guide his side to a top-six finish in the Premier League this season.

With no Champions League football this season, top sponsors adidas and Chevrolet are reportedly concerned about falling revenues.

Champions League clauses are believed to feature in the sponsors’ contracts, meaning United will miss out on a significant sum of money if they fail to end the season in the top four.

Pochettino is reportedly prepared to be patient over a new job but is excited about the prospect of taking charge of United at some stage.

As for Solskjaer, pressure has been mounting all season with United suffering their worst record after 24 games of a league season in 30 years.

United have struggled with key injuries to the likes of Scott McTominay and Paul Pogba, while Marcus Rashford’s back injury forced the club’s hand in singing Odion Ighalo on deadline day.

The Red Devils are enjoying a warm-weather training camp in Spain as part of the Premier League’s mid-season break, with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge up next.

In other United news, the club will reportedly have to meet Kalidou Koulibaly’s £127million release clause if they want to sign the Senegal international in the summer.

Solskjaer’s side are reportedly after a top centre-back to partner Harry Maguire and Koulibaly has been on their radar for some time.

According to Italian source Corrierre dello Sport, the new exit clause becomes active in June, meaning United will have to stump up if they want to bring the defender to Old Trafford.
