McManus looking forward to Killie

The Steelmen could only manage a draw against Ross County at the weekend, meaning the Dingwall side and Kilmarnock remain clear of Well in the playoff spot with just three games remaining.

However, despite the looming threat of a two-legged playoff to retain their top flight status, McManus says the mood in the camp is positive.

He said: “It’s really good. We’re looking forward to the next game. We were disappointed not to get the three points from Ross County because I thought we deserved that.

“All credit to them, they defended very well and got the point they were looking for. But for us we can only concentrate on ourselves. The pleasing thing was our performance on Saturday so we are certainly full of confidence.”

The former Celtic defender says Well go into every game determined to take maximum points and he knows they will need to be at their best when they welcome Kilmarnock to Fir Park on Friday in what is now a massive tie in the race for survival.

He said: “We go in to every game trying to win it. Kilmarnock will be doing the same, they’ll be looking forward to it and trying to win the game and it’s no different for us. In the last few weeks we’ve had tremendous backing from the fans which has been great.

“At this stage in the season we go one game at a time. The most important one is the next one which is Kilmarnock. Gary Locke will be looking to try and turn things around a bit. Personally for me it was great he got the job because I felt he did tremendously well there.

“But for us we need to look after ourselves and work as hard as we possibly can in the circumstances and try and win the game.

And as Rangers and Queen of the South get set to meet in the first Championship playoff on May 9, McManus insists he is only bothered about Motherwell’s upcoming fixtures.

He added: “Friday is our only concern. There will be games on during the week that when you are there you always end up watching it but no, for us the only game is Friday.”
