Medical booked, as Brentford strike shock agreement to sign Everton striker

Maupay and Calvert Lewin of Everton

Brentford have struck a verbal agreement with Everton in a deal that will see Neal Maupay return to the club he played for between 2017-19, according to a top source.

Maupay, 27, has endured a torrid time since arriving at Goodison Park by way of Brighton last summer. The Frenchman notched just a single goal despite making 29 appearances for the Toffees last season.

The recent arrival of Beto and return to fitness of Dominic Calvert-Lewin has pushed Maupay down the pecking order.

Now, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, Maupay is primed to return to the club where he first made his mark in England.

Romano tweeted a “verbal agreement” between Everton and Brentford on a season-long loan with an option to buy has been forged.

Maupay is seemingly on board with re-joining the Bees, with Romano adding the striker is currently travelling with the intention of undertaking a medical when arriving.

Brentford have coped well in the absence of Ivan Toney who continues to serve an eight-month ban due to betting breaches.

Bryan Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa have shared the workload, though will now be joined by Maupay with manager Thomas Frank set to gain another option in attack.
