Leeds medical planned for Monday as journalist claims striker deal is done

Leeds are closing in on the signing of Red Bull Leipzig forward Jean-Kevin Augustin, with the striker reportedly set to undergo a medical at the club on Monday.

RMC Sport journalist Mohamed Bouhafsi confirmed on his Twitter page that Augustin is set to undergo a medical, having initially claimed the deal was “done”.

Marcelo Bielsa’s promotion hopefuls have been in the market for another striker after Arsenal chose to recall Eddie Nketiah from his loan spell at Elland Road early.

That has left Leeds with Patrick Bamford as their only out-and-out centre-forward, and some costly misses have seen the likes of Fulham, Nottingham Forest and Brentford all close the gap on Leeds and West Borm at the top of the table.

Augustin is currently on loan at AS Monaco in Ligue 1, with the 22-year-old only managing to find the net once in a total of 12 appearances this term.

The Frenchman has scored 18 goals in 62 appearances for Leipzig since arriving from PSG in 2017, and has also been linked with a move to Premier League side Everton.

He would become Leeds’ third signing of the month, with Elia Caprile and Ian Poveda recently arriving from Verona and Manchester City respectively.

Leeds turned to Augustin after failing in several bids to try and tempt Southampton into a deal for striker Che Adams.
