Manchester United have been given renewed hope of a beat-the-deadline deal to sign Ousmane Dembele after an apparent change of heart from the winger.
The World Cup-winning Barcelona winger has emerged as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s favoured option after a deal for Jadon Sancho collapsed.
The Red Devils have chased Sancho long and hard this summer. Those hopes, however, appear dead in the water after a seeing final £91m offer rejected by Dortmund.
As per reports, the Bundesliga side rejected that offer in an instant. They are reported to have told United he wouldn’t leave for a penny less than £109m (€120m).
United, though, did have a Plan B. As such, reports on Tuesday night claimed a €60m deal for Dembele was close.
As often the case with United though a deal is never going to be straight forward.
Wednesday’s Euro Paper Talk claimed those hopes were set to end in disappointment, with Dembele determined to stay
However, reports in Spain now claim Dembele is quickly warming to the idea of a move to Old Trafford.
As per RAC1, Dembele believes Ronald Koeman’s determination to offload him means a future at Barcelona looks unlikely. The former Holland boss has a tight budget as he looks to remould his Barca side.
As such, he wants to offload Dembele and replace him with Memphis Depay. The Lyon star is on the market for a bargain fee.
The Catalonian radio station claims Dembele may now seek a change of scenary if he’s unwanted.
The former Borussia Dortmund man has been ravaged by a string of niggling injuries during his time at the Nou Camp. Having been limited to just 75 appearances during his three seasons so far.
As a result, it’s claimed that Dembele could now hope pastures new result in an about-turn of fortunes on the injury front.
“The first thing to say is that it is up to the club and to the player,” he said.
“But he is with us and as we’ve seen in recent weeks I am counting on him. He has to wait to play but he is training well, getting fitter.
“I want to say that I am counting on him.”
United eye Atalanta winger
United are reportedly also working on a deal to sign Atalanta winger Amad Traore before Monday’s deadline.
However, the move for the 18-year-old has been described as ‘not straightforward’ by MEN sources.
Traore, who was born in the Ivory Coast, has not yet won an international cap but may not need a work permit if he has an Italian passport – having moved to Italy at a young age.
The report adds that United have partly moved for Traore before new criteria is drafted up for Premier League clubs to sign 18 to 21-year-old foreign talent post-Brexit.
