Richards ‘devastated’ as pundit explains why Man City will miss Sane

Micah Richards says he is “devastated” that Leroy Sane has left Manchester City, explaining why they will miss him.

Sane finally left City this summer after years of links with Bayern Munich. The winger signed a five-year contract in Germany back in July.

City have since replenished their options out wide by signing Ferran Torres, while Riyad Mahrez, Bernardo Silva and Raheem Sterling remain in the squad.

However, Richards thinks they will feel the loss of Sane, whom he described as among the best players in his position.

“I’m devastated to see Sane go, if I’m being totally honest,” Richards told Sky Sports, “because for me he’s one of the best wingers in the world.

“When City were winning the leagues, the game would be tight and City would have a lot of the ball, couldn’t really break the game down, and bring on Sane and he’d just change the game.

“I was devastated when he said he wanted to leave.”

Sane played 135 times for Man City over four years in total, scoring 39 times. His absence due to injury was one of the factors that meant City could not retain their title last season.

Carragher thinks Man City still biggest threat to Liverpool

City‘s run of winning two consecutive titles ended when Liverpool beat them to the crown in convincing fashion in 2019-20. The Reds finished 18 points clear of their nearest challengers.

The title race could be much closer this time, with Chelsea and Manchester United potentially posing a threat to the top two.

But Jamie Carragher thinks Man City are still “the biggest obstacle” in Liverpool’s way – although he is excited to see Bruno Fernandes’ first full season in the Premier League.

“I still think Man City, rather than Manchester United, will be the biggest obstacle to Liverpool retaining the title. But I do see United getting a lot closer.

“I think the signing of Fernandes has been fantastic and he was outstanding in the second half of the season.

“And I think Fernandes in a full season would make United a lot better. I’m really excited to see Fernandes. I think he’s a super player.”
