Michael Owen has suggested that he doesn’t think youngsters Tahith Chong and Angel Gomes will make it as Manchester United stars in the future.
Chong and Gomes made their third and second appearances of the season, respectively, on Thursday evening as a youthful Red Devils side beat Astana 1-0 in the opening match of United’s Europa League campaign.
Speaking about Chong and Gomes in comparison with Mason Greenwood – who scored the winner at Old Trafford – Owen admitted that the prospect of the former two making the cut at the club is “a big question”.
[Greenwood]’s a proper player, a serious player that could be a Manchester United star for years to come,” the pundit told BT Sport.
“With all due respect, there’s other players there that have played tonight like Chong, Gomes, players like that that are going to have lovely careers but are they going to be Manchester United players?
“That’s a big question, whereas Mason Greenwood, I think he will be.”
Owen also told BT Sport that he thinks Greenwood will have a part to play in United’s Premier League campaign this season.
