Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta confidently declared that he is “on it” as he gave an update on the club’s transfer plans on deadline day.

The Gunners have had a relatively quiet window, with Martin Odegaard‘s arrival the only one of marquee note.

However, the north London club are likely to create a flurry of activity in the final hours of the market. Indeed, speaking in a press conference on Monday morning, Arteta confirmed that he has plans to send players out.

Ainsley Maitland-Niles could go, with the 23-year-old keen to seek regular football. What’s more, winger Reiss Nelson and Joe Willock are reportedly on the loan list after also struggling for game time.

The Daily Mirror reports that Spanish clubs are keen on Nelson, with Newcastle eyeing Willock as per The Telegraph.

But asked about the possibility of signing a new left-back, Arteta told reporters (via football.london): “The last day of the window is always unpredictable, things can happen.

“It might happen, it might not happen. We are on it.”

On loan exits from the Emirates Stadium, meanwhile, the Spaniard added: “Yes we have decided and we are working on it, so you will find out before 11pm.”

Speculation has linked Maitland-Niles with Leicester and Southampton.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta does not rule out further transfer activity at the club on Deadline Day.

In any case, the full-back – who sees his long-term future in midfield – has his sights set on a place with England at Euro 2020.

Asked about the player’s exit, Arteta said: “I don’t know, I cannot speak about any individual players.

“We know what we want to do, the conversations we’ve had which are for various reasons and let’s see if we can get something done tonight.”

Despite Arteta sounding confident of business going the way he wants it to on deadline day, the manager sounded a warning about the situation taking a U-turn.

Pressed on whether he likes the final day of the window, he added: “Sometimes I do, sometimes I don’t! It is what it is, at least when you know what you want to do, what you want to achieve, it is easier.

“Hopefully we won’t have any bad surprises and we can control what we want to do.”

Arteta was speaking ahead of Arsenal’s return to Premier League action against Wolves on Tuesday.
