AC Milan are still pursuing a deal for Lucas Torreira after being given encouragement the Arsenal man wants to leave London, according to a report in Italy.
Gazzetta Dello Sport report that AC Milan are still after the holding midfielder, despite reports suggesting that they have abandoned the chase.
Uruguay star Torreira is new Milan boss Marco Giampaolo’s top target having managed the combative midfielder while the pair were together at Sampdoria.
The Italian coach was confirmed as AC Milan’s new coach yesterday after leaving Samp at the end of the season and Giampaolo wants Torreora with him again in Serie A.
The player would also be happy to return to Italy and be reunited with his former manager with Gazzetta stating the 23-year-old isn’t satisfied with his adventure in England.
Last week he revealed he has struggled to come to terms with life in the capital.
“I moved from the Italian championship to a totally different style of football and life,” Torreira told reporters.
“England? I don’t know if there are many things that I like. I think I was doing better in Italy. England is a completely different world, a very large country. It cost me a lot to learn the language to be able to relate with colleagues and people.
“It becomes very difficult if you can’t have dialogue. And then, there is time. You go out in the morning and it is cloudy, you come home in the afternoon and it is cloudy. The sun is a bit strange in these parts, we are not from here and we are used to always, or almost always, the sun. Over the years I will adapt.”
Milan though will have to find at least £35million to persuade the Gunners to sell and that may prove a difficult fee to attain for the Rossoneri.
Earlier in the week the same outlet claimed Milan has offered Franck Kessie in a straight swap deal for Torreira.
However, Arsenal – having weighed up the merits of a swap deal – decided against the chance to sign Kessie and, responded by taking Torreira off the market and informing his suitors that he will stay at Emirates Stadium.
Torreira moved to the Emirates last summer in a £26million deal from Sampdoria and his all-action style quickly made him a fans’ favourite as he featured in 50 games for the club in his debut season.
