James Milner: Adapting well to new role

Nathaniel Clyne has admitted his frustration at teammate James Milner – because of his ability to make playing in any position look easy.

Milner has been used mostly as a left-back by Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp this season after the dropping of Alberto Moreno, and has settled into the role well.

He has bagged four times from this position, including becoming the team’s designated penalty taker, adapting instantly from his previous role in midfield.

England international Clyne stated that every team needs a player like Milner due to his versatility.

“He seems to make it look easy! I’ve trained my whole career to be a full-back and he comes in and makes it look easy! He’s enjoying it and also getting on the scoresheet,” Clyne joked.

“He’s a very experienced professional – every team needs a James Milner in their side. He can play in any position.”

The former Southampton defender also revealed the nickname he has been given by manager Klopp.

“The manager has called me a machine in the past,” he added.

“I’m not entirely sure why, it’s probably because I play in loads of games and rarely get injured or come off with knocks.

“All I try and do is my best for the team and try not to complain about anything.”
