Salah warned ‘petty’ antics could cause calamitous Liverpool break-up

Mohamed Salah; Sadio Mane TEAMtalk

Liverpool winger Mohamed Salah needs to be “careful” or risk breaking up the unmissable trio he has formed with Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino, according to one pundit.

Salah has showed no signs of slowing up his hunt for goals since his arrival at Anfield in 2017. Indeed, after scoring 44 times in his debut season, he won a second Premier League Golden Boot in 2018/19.

However he has received significant help from fellow attackers Mane and Firmino who, overall, have hit over 250 goals for the Reds.

But, at times, Salah’s number-chasing has led to him denying opportunities for teammates. The latest such incident came on Saturday, when the Egyptian hit the post with Mane in space.

Writing in a BBC Sport column, pundit Garth Crooks warned Salah about continuing to focus on himself.

“Mane had a header saved which rebounded for Robert Firmino to score the equaliser against Sheffield United. He then produced a wonderful cross for Diogo Jota to score the winner,” Crooks noted of Liverpool’s 2-1 win.

“However when the ball came to Mohamed Salah with Mane well placed alongside him the Egypt international chose to go it alone and hit the post.

“When Mane politely protested, Salah gesticulated that he had to go for the shot. No he didn’t. A pass to Mane and Liverpool would have gone 3-1 up.”

Crooks added: “Salah needs to be careful, I’ve seen him sacrifice his team-mate before for glory.

“The reason Liverpool have been so successful is due to the collaboration of their front three. Didn’t the Beatles break up over something rather petty?”

Owen notices Salah’s Sheff Utd flare-up

Crooks was not the only pundit to notice Saturday’s brief discussions between Salah and Mane.

Michael Owen picked up on the incident and said that there is still “something there” between the pair.

Indeed, Mane vented his frustrations at Salah last season for missing an opportunity away at Burnley.
