Monaco confident of signing Chelsea, Arsenal WC target

Aleksandr Golovin Russia TEAMtalk

Monaco say they are close to wrapping up a move for Chelsea and Arsenal target Aleksandr Golovin.

The Principality club say they have tabled an offer for the CSKA Moscow midfielder, who starred for Russia at the World Cup.

Goal reported at the start of the month that Chelsea were leading the chase for Golovin.

Juventus are understood to have made a €20million bid and looked favourites to land the midfielder, while Arsenal have also watched the player.

Metro claimed Manchester United are also interested in signing Golovin, but Chelsea look to be heading the queue.

“Yes, now there are talks between the clubs, but we still do not know the details,” said Golovin’s mother Svetlana, as cited in the tabloid.

Now though, Monaco are in pole position after making a firm bid for the player, whose value appears to be rising by the day.

Monaco’s vice-president, Vadim Vasilyev, told Sport Express: “We made CSKA a proposal for Golovin.

“I cannot reveal the amount of the transfer, but it is a worthy fee. The duration of the contract? Standard, five years.

“I think in this situation the transition to Monaco is the most correct option for Golovin.

“To go from Russia immediately to the top club of the leading European league is very risky. We are able to launch the career of young players – just look at Kylian Mbappe.

“Everything should be decided in the coming days. Probably, even today.

“But everyone needs to understand that we cannot wait long. If the transaction does not succeed, we will move on to the next target.”

The 22-year-old, who emerged out of CSKA Moscow’s academy system to make 113 senior appearances for the club, is under contract with CSKA until 2021.
