Manchester United are leading the race to sign Monaco midfielder Fabinho, according to a report from Brazil.
Sports journal Lance claims that the Red Devils are the frontrunners to land the Brazil international, who has previously hinted at a summer move.
According to Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, United will go all out to land the 24-year-old for what they feel is a bargain price.
United were heavily linked with Fabinho last summer and the player was understood to be upset at not being allowed to leave France.
Kylian Mbappe, Tiemoue Bakayoko and Bernardo Silva were all allowed to leave the Ligue 1 champions, but Fabinho, who has been reported at Jose Mourinho’s number one midfield target, had to stay put.
United though are believed to have maintained their interest in the player and will pay the €50million release clause, which was reported in the summer by L’Equipe.
Marouane Fellaini is set to leave the club in the summer meaning United need fresh midfielders, and Mourinho will have been encouraged by Fabinho’s recent comments.
“My time with Monaco was good but I feel my time here is coming to an end,” he said.
“I know that the club’s vision is to try to finish second and qualify for the Champions League without counting on big-name players but on young players. I believe I have gone through this process.
“I arrived as an unknown, I made my name at the club, won things; but maybe I need a new challenge.”
