Jose Mourinho: Reflects on Ryan Giggs' departure

Jose Mourinho has already signed an agreement with Manchester United to become their next manager, according to reports in Spain.

Spanish paper El Confidencial have cited informed sources in Portugal – namely Mourinho’s agent Jorge Mendes. They report that super agent Mendes “has done his job” and found the Portuguese boss his next job in management.

Last month it was claimed Mourinho wrote a six-page letter to the United hierarchy outlining why he should take over from current boss Louis Van Gaal. The Dutchman is in the firing line with United’s performances far from what is expected at Old Trafford.

United sit in fifth place, but in a season where the league is as open as ever Van Gaal’s men are 10 points behind leaders Leicester with just 14 games to play.

The Daily Star have claimed executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward has already decided to sack Van Gaal at the end of the campaign. The former Netherlands coach is contracted to the end of next season with United but his results and the style of play are under scrutiny and Mourinho is the favourite with the bookies to take over the reins.

Mourinho was axed at Chelsea in December just seven months after leading them to the title, but a woeful run of form and talk of a dressing room mutiny ended his two-and-a-half-year tenure.
