Mourinho blow as Milan lead chase to sign Spurs target from Real

Lucas Vazquez TEAMtalk

Tottenham are reportedly set to suffer a blow to their hopes of landing a Real Madrid winger on a free transfer this summer.

Jose Mourinho is already on the hunt for new summer recruits, with Real attacker Lucas Vazquez known to be on his radar.

The Daily Star reported last week that Spurs wanted to snap up the 29-year-old on a free transfer.

However, Cadena COPE (as cited by Fichajes) claims that AC Milan are now the firm favourites to sign the player.

Vazquez looks certain to quit the Bernabeu this summer, with contract talks over a new deal hitting a roadblock.

Indeed, a report from Spanish publication ABC claims that Real are not prepared to offer the pay rise he wants.

The LaLiga star is mainly used as a forward option but can play as right wing-back. To that end, there have been suggestions he is wanted as a replacement for Matt Doherty.

The summer signing from Wolves has been a major let down and could be moved on after one season.

Jose Mourinho explains how the Tottenham coaching staff work with Gareth Bale to manage his body and ensure they get the best out of him.

As for Vazquez, the report in Cadena COPE adds that he has made his mind up about moving on.

However, it is Milan, rather than Mourinho’s men, who look likely to win the race for the Spain international.

Mourinho wants quick move for Anderlecht loanee

Jose Mourinho has reportedly implored Tottenham to act quickly to win the race to sign impressive Anderlecht loanee Paul Mukairu – before they are beaten to the punch.

Mukairu has caught the eye this season after moving to Belgium on loan from Turkish side Antalyaspor. He has netted two goals and created four more in 19 appearances for the Jupiler Pro League side.

The interest in the winger has escalated in recent weeks after it emerged he’s available for just £4m.

The growing interest in acquiring his services has seen the likes of Ajax, Bayer Leverkusen and Roma all mentioned as suitors.

However, Voetbal Primeur claims Mourinho is also an admirer and has urged Tottenham to snap up the 21-year-old. They state the club are more than willing to match the €5m asking price for the Nigerian, who is seen as one for the future.

Last week, it emerged that Ajax are likely to be Spurs’ main competition for the young star. Read more…
