Mourinho concern as injury crisis prompts rivals to pinch €25m target

Arkadiusz Milik

Tottenham look set to miss out on the signing of Arkadiusz Milik after it was reported Manchester City had made a firm approach to sign the striker.

The Poland hitman looks destined to leave Napoli this summer, having refused a new deal. With just nine months left on his deal, Napoli are keen to sell now, rather than lose him for nothing.

As such, a modest €25m fee has been stuck on his head.

Tottenham were reported to be leading the chase to sign the former Ajax hitman. Boss Jose Mourinho is desperate to bring in more firepower to provide cover and competition for Harry Kane.

The north London club have already held talks over a deal for the 26-year-old and appeared favourites to seal a deal.

However, Rai Sports reporter Ciro Venerato now claims it is City who look poised to seal his signing. Furthermore, the deal could even go through for less than the original asking price.

City have made their move after an injury crisis left them without a senior recognised striker. Pep Guardiola’s side are currently without Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus to injury. As such, they were forced to field Raheem Sterling as a makeshift striker during Sunday’s 5-2 home defeat to Leicester.

Teenager Liam Delap provided back-up from the bench.

As per Venerato, City could get their hands on Milik for an initial downpayment of just €20m. A further €6m would be due in bonuses and add-ons depending on his and City’s success.

The deal appeals to both sides and it’s reported Milik is willing to switch the blue of Napoli for that of City.

The news though would come as a major blow to Mourinho, who is thought to have made Milik a top target.

City pair on Barcelona radar

City could potentially fund a move for Milik by offloading a pair of players to Barcelona.

Eric Garcia Man City TEAMtalk

The La Liga giants remain fond of Eric Garcia, a player who left their academy to join City in 2017. The defender is now keen to return to his hometown club.

With just a year left on his deal at the Etihad Stadium, Garcia is expecting to see out his contract before re-joining Barcelona in 2021.

However, reports claim Barcelona could still make a move for the teenager before the transfer deadline.

Furthermore, in talks over the teenager, it seems another City star has also been offered to Barca as part of the deal.
