Mourinho in urgent transfer talks over fears Man Utd may miss out on trio
Jose Mourinho is reportedly set for urgent transfer talks with Manchester United amid concerns that proposed moves for three stars could see efforts to land his main targets falter.
According to reports, United are closing on triple moves for Shakhtar Donetsk star Fred, FC Porto right-back Diogo Dalot and Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld, with all three captures expected to cost the club a reported £128.64million.
Furthermore, United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward is keen to push through a deal for Real Madrid star Gareth Bale – which could set the club back a further £70million and take their summer spending soaring towards the £200million mark.
Bale has long since been admired by Woodward and the player hinted at the weekend after his Champions League final exploits that he seeking a new challenge this summer. It remains to be seen whether Zinedine Zidane’s exit as manager at the Bernabeu will yet change Bale’s stance.
Either way and whether a move to Old Trafford emerges this summer, there is talk that Mourinho is growing concerned that the club are ignoring the key areas he wishes to strengthen this summer with Woodward and Co prioritising other targets.
Mourinho remains keen to add a new central midfielder (and a direct replacement for Michael Carrick) as well as a new left-back to his ranks, Mourinho making those two positions – as well as central defence – his main priorities this summer.

The Sun goes as far to say as Mourinho has instructed Woodward not to blow his remaining summer budget on Bale and will seek urgent talks with the club to ensure efforts to sign Alex Sandro and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic – thought to be the United manager’s top two signing priorities – remain on track.
As the Manchester Evening News points out, Mourinho has previously felt constrained by a de facto budget at United, having spent £145.3m in the 2016 summer window and £140.9m in the 2017 equivalent. He wanted one more addition in each summer but, each time, United would not go over the £150m mark. Now it’s suggested he’s worried that history could be repeating, with the report further suggesting he fears he could be forced to sell a prized asset in order to boost the squad with the players he has targeted.
