Mourinho intervenes as Tottenham ‘hold talks’ with ‘keen’ Prem winger

Jose Mourinho Tottenham

Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho has reportedly ‘held personal talks’ with a Premier League winger over the possibility of a permanent switch to North London.

Spurs will aim to carry their end of season form into the new campaign after ultimately finishing in a disappointing sixth position.

Four wins from their final six matches helped to secure Europa League qualification. But expectations at Tottenham are higher after several superb seasons under ex-boss Mauricio Pochettino.

As such, Mourinho has acted fast in the transfer market, securing the signature of midfield general Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg from Southampton for approximately £15m a fortnight ago.

Former England goalkeeper Joe Hart also arrived, but the summer business appears to be far from over.

The Sun (via FootballInsider) report that Tottenham have ‘held talks’ with Leicester City regarding Demarai Gray.

The 24-year-old wide man has been with The Foxes since 2016 after making his breakthrough with boyhood club Birmingham City.

But with just 12 months remaining on his current deal, Leicester could be open to a sale to avert the risk of losing him for nothing next year.

Demarai Gray Leicester TEAMtalk

Tottenham are described as being ‘keen’ to secure his services, and have reportedly been tracking him for some time.

In order to fast track the move, Mourinho is understood to have ‘held discussions with Gray directly’

Tottenham have been heavily reliant on goals from Harry Kane for a number of seasons, but adding Gray would provide further reinforcements in the forward ranks.

Brewster Liverpool TEAMtalk

Liverpool should avoid sending rising star striker Rhian Brewster on loan to Tottenham and choose a side where he will get more game time, according to one pundit.

Brewster recently rejoined his Liverpool teammates after a stunning loan spell at Swansea. The 20-year-old scored 11 goals in 22 games to guide the Swans into the Championship play-offs.

Indeed, he has continued such blistering form in pre-season. After netting against Stuttgart on Saturday, he came off the bench to rescue Liverpool a draw on Tuesday.

However, it remains unclear whether Brewster will stick around at Anfield, as he did for the first half of last season.

Reports have suggested that Tottenham are one of the sides considering a loan move, but Darren Bent insists Liverpool should look elsewhere.
