Jose Mourinho (r): Is 'obsessed' with managerial rival Arsene Wenger, says Ian Wright

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho wants Arsenal, Manchester City and Manchester United to improve their faltering form in the Champions League.

The Blues were the sole English victors in the opening round of Champions League games this week, running out 4-0 winners over Maccabi Tel Aviv.

Arsenal and both Manchester clubs all suffered defeat in their games however, with the Premier League in potential danger of losing a Champions League place if their co-efficient continues to suffer.

Outside of Chelsea, Premier League clubs have won just eight games in 25 since the beginning of last season, while English teams have won just two knockout ties from a possible 11 since the Blues were crowned European champions in 2012.

No Premier League side managed to even make the quarter-finals of the tournament last season, and while Mourinho wants his rivals to struggle on the domestic front, he has urged them to up their game on the continental scene.

“I think it’s sad. It’s bad news for English football”, the Portuguese said.

“I’m not happy with that. I want Man City, Man United and Arsenal to lose in the Premier League – not in the Champions League.

“It’s not good for us. Season after season it’s difficult for English teams to be successful and start the group phase where you can make 12 points. When out of 12 points you make only three, it’s bad news for English football.”
