Napoli ‘dream’ of luring Chelsea star to Serie A, despite one major obstacle

Napoli have made two approaches for Chelsea left-back Emerson Palmieri, who is their “dream” target – according to an Italian journalist.

Emerson has fallen down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge since the arrival of Ben Chilwell over the summer. He already had Marcos Alonso as competition, but now his chances of regular first team football have slimmed even further.

The Italy international is considering a return to Serie A, where he used to play for Palermo and Roma. However, neither Inter Milan nor Juventus were able to sign him over the summer.

A third Italian suitor recently emerged in the race for the 26-year-old, in the shape of Napoli. Now, the extent of their interest has become clear.

According to journalist Ciro Venerato, speaking to Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli, Emerson’s representatives have now received two approaches from Napoli. However, Chelsea’s €25m asking price could lead them to move on to other targets.

“To date, Napoli have had two talks with the entourage of Emerson Palmieri, who are waiting for other important clubs,” Venerato said (via Sport Witness).

“Chelsea are asking for an obligatory loan of 25m, but it would be much more convenient to go to Greece and give PAOK 10 million and ask for [Dimitris] Giannoulis.

“Giannoulis is a concrete goal for the left back position. Napoli intends to take a left-back. [Gennaro] Gattuso’s dream is Emerson Palmieri of Chelsea.”

Chelsea are considering cashing in on Emerson in January, as they look to balance the books. Therefore, there could be an opportunity for Napoli to take him mid-season – depending on how much they are willing to set aside for his signing.

Emerson feels less important at Chelsea

Earlier this month, the full-back admitted he felt happier playing for Italy than he does for Chelsea.

Of his fortunes with the national team, Emerson said: “When I arrive here I change my head. I feel important and part of the group.

“At Chelsea, things are not going as I wish in this part of the season. I just have to work.”

He could now have the chance to finally return to the country he represents at club level as well.
