Gary Neville points finger of blame after Rudiger goal

Antonio Rudiger TEAMtalk

Gary Neville laid the blame firmly at Paul Pogba for Antonio Rudiger’s opening goal at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

The defender powerfully headed home a Willian corner with 21 minutes on the clock to put the hosts ahead after getting free from his marker Paul Pogba.

Rudiger made a quick movement towards the ball and powered home a header to leave French midfielder Pogba frustrated, who was then seen punching the ground and shouting as Rudiger wheeled away in delight.

But co-commentator  Neville was in no doubt where the blame lay.

“It’s Paul Pogba who is marking him, and I have to say it’s just ill discipline. He doesn’t really get blocked off. I wondered if Lindelof and Luiz had blocked his path, but they don’t really do a lot,” Neville said on Sky Sports.

“He (Pogba) is miles away from him and then it’s just a case of using the pace of the ball to guide it into the corner.

“Paul Pogba goes mad after and I’m not sure who he is going mad at, but it was his man.

“He was sleeping, but who is he blaming? He is having a go at Lindelof saying ‘you blocked me’ but he didn’t, I’m sorry Paul.”
