New boy Lopez ready for action

The 29-year-old Spanish forward has signed a one-year deal in the Highland capital after impressing on trial and now insists he is ready to face Romania side Astra Giurgiu in the Europa League qualifier.

He told the Inverness Courier: “I have seen right away the players are very good footballers. It is like a little bit of Spain in the north of Scotland. Every one of the team likes to play with the ball at feet. It’s perfect for me.

“I know the Scottish game itself can be quite physical but it isn’t a problem for me as I am quite big and strong myself.

“I absolutely love it here. The countryside is beautiful and the people, the staff are very friendly. The only thing that is lacking is that my family are not yet here. My wife and baby, they are coming here soon.

“My little boy Enzo is just nine months old and I have been missing him so much. I think it will be a good place for him to grow up. I’ll be glad when we are all over here together, maybe next month, but I’m excited about this opportunity in my career.”

Caley Thistle boss Hughes has lost the services of Edward Ofere and Billy Mckay in the last six months and he is delighted to have bolstered his forward options.

He said: “He is technically very good, but he is a good bit off it at the moment with his fitness.

“We need to really work him but it is a dangerous time. We can only do wee bits at a time to get him up to speed because the last thing we want is for him to pick up a strain or knock ahead of Thursday.

“But if he gets played in anywhere around the box, he’s liable to turn you. He’s at an age where he has been there and done that, he doesn’t need much coaching.”
