Mitrovic arrived at Newcastle Airport on Sunday afternoon to complete the formalities of his move to Tyneside for around £12million. The Serbia striker will undergo a medical on Monday morning, with Newcastle officials hoping to announce his signing later in the day.

The Magpies are also widely reported to be closing on the signing of Mbemba, who was left out of Anderlecht’s squad for their friendly against Lazio in Brussels. The DR Congo defender is set to become Steve McClaren’s third signing of the summer, following Georginio Wijnaldum and Mitrovic, for a fee of around £7.5million.

Newcastle are currently on tour in America, with neither Mitrovic nor Mbemba expected to meet their new team-mates until they return to the North East later in the week.
