Newcastle to make offer for Arsenal, Tottenham target ‘this week’ as Magpies battle two Euro giants for great signing
Arsenal and Tottenham may have to watch on as a Bundesliga star heads to Newcastle United as Eddie Howe’s side will soon make an offer for him, according to a report.
Ever since Newcastle’s takeover by the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund (PIF), they have emerged as a threat to the Premier League’s established ‘big six’. Last season, they finished ahead of Liverpool, Tottenham and Chelsea by achieving fourth spot. They will play in next season’s Champions League as a result.
Newcastle’s ultimate aim is to get amongst the likes of Manchester City and Arsenal and challenge for the Premier League title. To do that, they will have to add even more top players to their squad.
Newcastle began their summer transfer business by landing Italy star Sandro Tonali from Milan in a £60million deal. And Tonali could end up starring in the Newcastle midfield alongside Jesper Lindstrom next term.
Lindstrom is a Danish attacking midfielder who currently represents Eintracht Frankfurt in the German Bundesliga.
He enjoyed a good season in 2022-23, registering nine goals and four assists in 38 matches. Arsenal reportedly held talks over Lindstrom’s potential signing in April, while north London rivals Tottenham joined the chase a few weeks later.
But Newcastle now look like Lindstrom’s strongest suitors from England. After missing out on fellow playmaker James Maddison to Spurs, they began ‘preparing an offer’ for the 23-year-old at the start of July, as per German outlet Bild.
And that same source has now come back with an update on the situation. As cited by Get German Football News, they state that Newcastle, Milan and Napoli all hold ‘concrete interest’ in Lindstrom and could therefore submit offers ‘this week’.
Newcastle discover Jesper Lindstrom price
Frankfurt have already rejected a €25m (£21.3m) offer from German rivals RB Leipzig for the star. They will accept a €35m (£29.8m) offer though, which means Newcastle know exactly how much they need to pay to strike a deal.
In a boost for Lindstrom’s potential suitors, Frankfurt already know who they will bring in as a potential replacement. The player in question is Fares Chaibi, who currently plays in France with Toulouse.
Lindstrom will have a brilliant choice of clubs if Newcastle, Milan and Napoli all bid for him. Milan are one of the most respected clubs in Europe, having won the European Cup/Champions League on seven occasions. Napoli, meanwhile, have just won the Serie A title. And if they keep both Victor Osimhen and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, then they could be in for another successful campaign.
Despite these factors, it would be hard for Lindstrom to turn Newcastle down. They have more money than both Milan and Napoli and can therefore offer him the best wage. But it is not all about the money – Newcastle are definitely a club on the up under Howe and Lindstrom could become a vital part of the project as they eye major silverware.
