Newcastle told to expect ‘an animal’ when Almiron makes debut

Newcastle’s club-record signing Miguel Almiron has been described as “an animal” by former Sunderland striker Kenwyne Jones.

The Paraguay forward trained with his new teammates for the first time on Wednesday after being granted a work permit, having signed for £21million last month.

And Jones – who knows Almiron from his time in the MLS with Atlanta United – has tipped the attacker to be a big success on Tyneside.

Jones told the Chronicle: “Miguel loves football. In the beginning, he was very quiet but on the field he’s an animal. He always wants the ball and wants to win every game.”

Almiron is expected to make his debut for the Magpies when Rafael Benitez’s men head to Wolves on Monday night.

The 24-year-old could get his chance when the Magpies head for high-flying Wolves on Monday evening.
