Newcastle turn down £25m offer from West Ham for defender

West Ham have reportedly had a cheeky £20m bid for Jamaal Lascelles turned down by Newcastle United.

Sky Sports claim that the Hammers were told that the Magpies captain was not for sale.

The bid was apparently for an initial £20m, rising to £25m with certain add-ons presumably related to him eventually being capped by England and the Hammers returning to European football.

The Hammers have already spent over £20m on one centre-half this summer in Issa Diop.

Newcastle Chronicle journalist Ryder added: ‘This is more of the same on Lascelles and it appears to be agent driven. Newcastle would hold out for much more on Lascelles than £25million in any case.

‘Like the Everton and Chelsea rumours it’s head turning stuff for the Toon captain and not welcome in the eyes of fans and the manager.’
