Newcastle urged to ‘go all out’ for breathtaking Man City star who’ll make the Magpies title contenders
A former striker has named the Manchester City player Newcastle United should ‘seriously consider’ signing this summer if they want to make themselves Premier League title candidates next term.
Eddie Howe’s side have enjoyed a brilliant campaign, having reached the Carabao Cup final and put themselves in a fantastic position to qualify for next season’s Champions League. Unfortunately for Newcastle, they lost the Carabao Cup final to Manchester United, but they could still make it a season of big progress by getting into the top four.
Following the incredible 6-1 thrashing of Tottenham on Sunday, Newcastle sit in third place on 59 points. Man Utd are in fourth on the exact same amount of points, though they have a game in hand and could leapfrog Newcastle into third.
But the main positive for Newcastle is that fifth-placed Spurs are now six points behind. Plus, the north London side have played one game more than Newcastle and two games more than Man Utd.
If Howe is to help Newcastle reach the next step and challenge for the Prem crown, then he will need some more big names to arrive in the summer. And pundit Stan Collymore has suggested Newcastle go after Man City winger Riyad Mahrez.
The 32-year-old has managed 15 goals and eight assists in 38 appearances this season. That includes a recent hat-trick as City beat Sheffield United to put themselves in the FA Cup final, where they will play against rivals Man Utd.

Despite Mahrez’s obvious talent, he is not always in Pep Guardiola’s starting eleven due to the incredible attacking options the manager has at his disposal. And Collymore thinks Newcastle should capitalise.
“Riyad Mahrez is a player I think Newcastle should be seriously considering,” he said during an interview with CaughtOffside.
Newcastle told to ‘go all out’ for serial winner
“I know he’s played a fair amount of football this season, probably more than he was expecting, but with Jack Grealish the younger of the two, as well as how much they paid for him, I can’t see him being a player that is moved on. Whereas, I think Mahrez could be made surplus to requirements under Pep Guardiola.
“And should that be the case, Newcastle should go all out for him – I would be stunned if they aren’t already to be fair.”
Mahrez has helped City win four Prem titles during his five-year spell at the Etihad, and he could get Newcastle in the mix for one of their own.
He is world-class in one-on-one situations and has the ability to either cut inside and shoot on his left foot or pick out a team-mate with an incredibly accurate cross.
Mahrez could play on the right of Newcastle’s front three, replacing the likes of Miguel Almiron and Jacob Murphy. While Howe’s existing options in the position are good, Mahrez is a step above.
An attacking trio of Mahrez, Alexander Isak and Joelinton would be very hard to stop. And the signing of the Algerian may just be what Newcastle need to reach the next level.
Meanwhile, Newcastle have been given a ‘big opportunity’ to land a Paris Saint-Germain attacker, according to a report.
