N’Golo Kante has confirmed that Chelsea want to be “at the top” this season as they prepare for a title challenge.
Chelsea spent more heavily than any other Premier League in the summer transfer window. They completed big-money deals for signings such as Kai Havertz, Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech.
Their ambition in the transfer market led some to predict they could compete for the Premier League title this season. They are doing their best to keep pace so far, having only lost once in the top flight.
They have also scored more goals than any other team in the division. However, they are three points off top spot and one point outside the top four after eight games.
Come the end of the season, the target will to be in those places – especially after how much they invested in the summer.
Kante, who is now in his fifth season at Chelsea, has been speaking about the Blues’ standards while on international duty with France.
He told TF1: “The team has changed in recent years, the coach has been here for a year working together.
“I think we have signed a fair amount of new players and what we are trying to do is to maintain Chelsea’s standards, win titles and be at the top in England.”
Chelsea ‘well placed’ for success
Kante continued: “We are well placed at the moment, I hope we will continue in this vein.
“And I hope that we will qualify for the Champions League as quickly as possible again.”
Chelsea returned to the Champions League after finishing in fourth place last season. They have two wins and one draw without conceding a single goal in the group stage after three games.
Kante has started all eight of Chelsea’s Premier League games so far this term, while also featuring in all three Champions League games.
