Dutch goal machine on Leeds radar as Belgians eye sneaky profit

Noa Lang, Club Brugge winger

Leeds United are reportedly interested in signing Club Brugge loan star Noa Lang during the upcoming summer transfer window.

The 21-year-old has been earning rave reviews for his displays at Jan Breydel Stadium. While technically still on the books at Dutch giants Ajax, he has agreed to join Blauw-Zwart on a permanent basis this summer. However, according to The Telegraph, the winger has hinted he is open to another immediate move if the right offer comes along.

And that offer might come from Elland Road, with Marcelo Bielsa said to be a fan. Lang came up through the Ajax youth ranks before making his senior debut in December 2019.

And it was a memorable introduction to the first team. The Netherlands Under-21 ace became the first Ajax player in 60 years to score a hat-trick on their debut.

Despite the feat, he was loaned to FC Twente in January 2020 and made seven Eredivisie appearances for the Tukkers. He returned to Amsterdam and played just seven minutes of league football for Ajax this term before heading to Belgium in October.

It has proved to be a shrewd move, with 15 goals from 25 Belgian First Division A appearances. The Rotterdam-born wide man will make a permanent move to Brugge for £5.4m at the start of July.

But that might not be the end of the story, with the Whites said to be ready to pounce. The Telegraph are reporting that the Yorkshire outfit are willing to part with €20m (£17m) to secure his signature.

That would make Brugge a nice profit while a move to the Premier League outfit would boost Noa’s wages.

Bielsa set for summer spend

It has been a solid season for Leeds in their first campaign back in the top flight. Many pundits tipped them for an immediate return to the Championship.

But with 14 wins already under their belt, they are safely in 11th spot and free from relegation worries. The second season will always be tougher.

And Leeds need look no further than to South Yorkshire for an example. Sheffield United finished ninth after gaining promotion but will finish rock bottom this term.

Bielsa will try to ensure his men do not follow suit and will recruit in the off-season. One man already linked is Udinese midfielder Rodrigo De Paul.

He would cost significantly more than Lang but is also being eyed by Liverpool.
