Norwich outbid Argentine giant in battle for bargain Buendia replacement

Norwich City have quickly identified their preferred replacement for Emiliano Buendia after his club-record transfer to Aston Villa, according to reports.

Buendia was a brilliant piece of business for Norwich. They signed him in 2018 for little over £1m, and he instantly helped fire them into the Premier League. They suffered an immediate relegation, but he impressed in the top flight. Then, he did so again as they regained promotion for the upcoming season.

But he will not be spending it with them, after becoming Aston Villa’s record signing. The attacking midfielder also became Norwich’s record sale as a result.

The club confirmed upon his exit that they would have preferred to keep him, but couldn’t turn down such a substantial sum. What’s more, Buendia himself wanted the move.

Norwich now know they have a big void to fill in their team as they look to make a better attempt at staying up next season.

And according to Argentine source Ole (via The Sun) they have already found someone who they could bring in to replace Buendia.

The player in question is Norberto Briasco, who plays in Argentina for Huracan and represents Armenia internationally (qualifying through his maternal grandfather).

Transfer Chatter - Liverpool identify Wijnaldum replacement, Arsenal to raid RB Leipzig and Gundogan stalling new contract

Jurgen Klopp has identified his perfect Georgino Wijnaldum replacement, Arsenal ready to raid RB Leipzig with a double swoop and Ilkay Gundogan is stalling on signing a new Manchester City contract, all in today's transfer chatter.

Briasco has spent his entire senior career so far at Huracan, after making his debut in 2016. Now 25 years old, it could be time for him to test himself in Europe.

Norwich have overseen some clever deals in recent years and are hoping Briasco could follow in Buendia’s footsteps. The winger has an asking price of just £3.2m.

That’s double the amount that fellow suitors Boca Juniors are willing to pay. On the other hand, Norwich are ready to meet the full value and have already made contact.

The Canaries have plenty of money to reinvest after the sale of Buendia. But they won’t necessarily spend it all on one player. Instead, it seems they have found a cheap solution to replace the Villa new boy.

Daniel Farke will then look to strengthen other areas of his squad in an effort to prepare them better for another crack at top-flight football.

Smith satisfied with Buendia buy

Buendia will instead be focusing on a new adventure with Aston Villa, who finished in mid-table last season. It was a year of progress, but they were sometimes too reliant on Jack Grealish.

Their addition of Buendia, who has signed a five-year contract, addresses that issue.

As such, manager Dean Smith is looking forward to welcoming a player of Buendia’s quality to Villa Park.

Smith said: “Emiliano has just completed an outstanding season in a Championship-winning Norwich side with 31 combined goals and assists and was named player of the season across the league.

“He is equally capable as a wide attacker or as a number 10 and is a great addition to our attacking options.

“We are delighted to have made such an exciting signing so early in the summer and look forward to Emi joining up with us for a full pre-season.”
