Norwich set hefty defender price for Bayern to end two-year hunt

Norwich City have reportedly informed Bayern Munich that they will need to pay between £30-£35m to stand any chance of signing defender Max Aarons this summer.

Bayern have made no secret of their desire to lure Aarons to the Allianz Arena. The Bundesliga giants have sent scouts to watch him for the past two years and been impressed with the reports.

The 21-year-old has been an ever-present for the Canaries this term and helped them to the top of the Championship. Daniel Farke’s side are looking for an immediate return to the Premier League.

They sit one point clear of Brentford and have a five-point advantage over third-placed Swansea City. Aarons has played his part, with one goal and three assist in addition to his prowess at the back.

The East Anglian outfit are keen to focus on their promotion battle. They want any talks about his future put off until the end of the campaign.

That is to ensure the right-back’s mind is in the right place for the run-in to May. Aarons was linked with a move to Barcelona in September last year.

It seemed as though the Catalans were set to offer him a five-year deal. However, it failed to materialise and he remained to aid Norwich’s cause. It seems inevitable that there will be interest in the summer – and not just from the Bavarians.

Premier League duo enter equation

It was reported earlier this month that Manchester United and Tottenham were both admirers of the full-back. United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants to provide competition for Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

And manager Jose Mourinho might need a replacement for Serge Aurier if the Ivorian moves on from Tottenham. The other option is that the Hammersmith-born ace remains at Carrow Road for what may well be another crack at the Premier League.

He played every minute of Norwich’s 2019-2020 top-flight campaign that ended in relegation. They finished rock bottom of the table and are going the right way about trying to make amends.

Bayern would seem an attractive proposition for the youngster. They have signed RB Leipzig centre-back Dayot Upamecano. He will join in the summer.

Chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge can be persuasive and it remains to be seen if he can work his magic on Aarons.

But the former Luton Town youth player will not come cheap, according to Sky Sports.  And there may be some tough negotiations from both clubs to get a deal over the line.
