Nuno Espirito Santo

Nuno Espirito Santo is close to becoming the next Crystal Palace manager despite also holding talks with Everton, reports claim.

One of many managers to be looking for a new job this summer, Nuno left Wolves at the end of the 2020-21 season. He led them from the Championship into Europe, but reached the end of a cycle after a draining year. It looks like he won’t have to wait too long to get back on the touchline, though.

According to the Daily Telegraph, Nuno is in “advanced talks” with Palace over replacing Roy Hodgson.

Hodgson stood down from his position as Palace boss upon the expiration of his contract at the end of the season. The Eagles now want to go in a different direction ahead of a huge summer rebuild.

Like Hodgson, several of their players will be leaving as free agents. Whoever takes charge has a massive job on their hands to find the right reinforcements for their new era.

It seems that Nuno will be the man entrusted with that task. According to the Telegraph, he is Palace’s top candidate and is now “on the verge” of being appointed.

The London-based club could even announce him as their next boss by the end of the week.

Nuno has been elevated to the top of their wishlist ahead of other names like Frank Lampard, Sean Dyche, Steve Cooper and Valerien Ismael.

Their talks with him have been successful and it looks like he will put pen to paper.

Everton to look elsewhere

The Telegraph also confirm that Nuno has been in talks with Everton. He was quickly linked with the Toffees after Carlo Ancelotti quit to join Real Madrid.

However, it appears he will be taking the reins at Palace instead, forcing Everton to find another solution.

One report recently suggested they were looking at two Italian managers who have just lost their jobs. One is a relative rookie after a glittering playing career, while the other has much more managerial experience and has even won the Premier League before.
