Shanghai Greenland Shenhua will demand £15million from Manchester United to keep Odion Ighalo at the club past the end of the season, according to reports.
With United in need of attacking reinforcements in January after Marcus Rashford’s back injury, the Red Devils brought Ighalo to Old Trafford from China.
The Nigeria international’s impact has been brilliant, with his strike in Thursday’s 5-0 thrashing of LASK his fourth in eight appearances in all competitions.
As such, United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has hinted that he could sign Ighalo on a permanent deal if his form continues.
According to the Sunday Mirror, such a deal will cost £15million – three times his current £5.85million valuation.
The newspaper claims that there is an option to buy in the deal that United and Shanghai agreed on deadline day in January, but no fee was agreed.
Therefore, Shanghai have reportedly been alerted by the striker’s rise in form and plan to “sting” United with their demands.
Ighalo moved to Shanghai for £5.27million last February, having been sold by Watford to Chinese second-tier side CC Yatai for £21million in 2017.
In other news, Ighalo has said that there is more to come from fellow January arrival Bruno Fernandes after the midfielder’s fantastic start to life at Old Trafford.
Portugal international Fernandes has scored three goals and assisted four others in nine appearances since his arrival from Sporting Lisbon.
Ighalo said of the midfielder: “You’re still going to see more and better from him because he is still getting used to the Premier League.
“When he’s finally settled Bruno Fernandes is going to do well in this team.
“Before I came here I knew Manchester United were looking at him and I was hoping they would get him because he is a good player and I knew he was going to change the dynamic of the team.
“He’s not going to have the best game every time but what he is going to bring to the team is going to be unbelievable.”
